Dozens of Greene County teachers were given a BOOST just before releasing their students for the summer when they were notified that they had been awarded funds to use for the 2019-2020 school year.
Earlier in the school year, the community came together for the second annual BOOST (Bringing Optimism & Opportunity to Students & Teachers) Bash, with more than 300 in attendance. The event was a tremendous success, with net proceeds of $67,443, a 25 percent increase over the previous year’s fundraising total.
Teachers were given the opportunity to request funds for specific projects. The BOOST distributions committee, composed of teachers and BOOST committee members, reviewed the requests and awarded more $50,000 to projects in the new school year that will create opportunities for students and teachers that would not have been possible otherwise. The remainder of the fundraising will be kept for additional projects and teacher appreciation activities during the upcoming school year.
Some of the funded projects include:• Student/Parent Learning Fair (1st Gr.)
• History Boy Theater Experience (Elementary)
• Coding Robots & Brain Bins (1st Gr.)
• Field Trip to Science Center (3rd & 6th Gr.)
• Overnight Field Trip to Camp Hantesa (6th Gr.)
• Trip to the State Capitol (seniors)
• Enhanced Reading Resources (all grades)
• Musical instruments (Elementary)
